Anime Sequels that got delayed because of the corona virus

2020 was supposed to be the golden year for many anime sequels. We are only halfway through and most of the anime sequels that almost all of the anime community were anticipating for years.

Have all been delayed!

Of course, not all anime productions have stopped. But almost half of them…have.

All because of the corona virus.

In the past few months, the influence of the virus has only grown and we don’t know how and when it will stop.

For now, we can only hope that the anime sequels that’ll be coming up in Summer 2020. Don’t get postponed too.

Fans tried to show a positive attitude by stating that the studios will definitely be able to find a way around it all. But, the production of an anime is a lot more complex topic than we know. There are things like broadcast and other stuff that can’t be done whilst taking the safety measures for the Quarantine.

Let’s talk about a few of the anime that got delayed.

To start things off, we have the second season of “Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World 2”, it was supposed to air in April but has been postponed to July.

The same is the case with, “My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU 3” it was also postponed to

July.

Now there are a few anime that got delayed midway.

Food wars: the fifth plate and The Millionaire Detective – Balance: UNLIMITED (NonSequel) were delayed even though two episodes of both of them were already out.

That just shows how there’s no telling when or which anime bites the dust next.

Even One Piece is finally on a break. The last episode that ever aired was the episode 929th

One anime studio went as far as to delay the production of one of the highest rated anime to January 2021. The anime I am talking about is the Promised Neverland

In short, all of the following Anime Sequels have been delayed,

  • A Certain Scientific Railgun T
  • Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Fifth Plate
  • My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU 3
  • One Piece
  • Pokémon
  • Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 2
  • Sazae-san (The longest running anime, this anime had been airing for five decades)
  • Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of the Underworld, Part 2
  • The Millionaire Detective - Balance: Unlimited

So now the question is, will more anime continue to get delayed or will the anime studios find a way around it.

Well, we shouldn’t get our hopes high because even the dub productions of some anime that were being done by Funimation have been getting delayed.

And as you can guess, Anime Films that were supposed to be in production for quite a long time have also been delayed, a few popular titles include

  • Butt Detective: Tentō Mushi Iseki no Nazo
  • Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet
  • Doraemon: Nobita's New Dinosaur
  • Doraemon: Stand by Me 2
  • Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel III. spring song
  • given (Movie)
  • Violet Evergarden: The Movie
  • Demon Slayer: Infinity Train and more

Keep in mind these lists are only a fraction of the actual number of all the anime that got delayed. And we don’t know for sure, if there’ll be more…and how many more?

Surprisingly, even now, some anime are still premiering. Take Kaguya sama: Love is War Season 2, Fruits Basket, and many excellent non sequels.

I’d say, if you are tired of waiting for the sequel of your favorite anime, you should check the ones that are still airing.

To be honest, we have a huge number of genuinely good anime airing at this very moment.

But why are these anime exceptions?

The most apparent answer is that Kaguya Sama: Love is war Season 2 had already been produced before its premiere. The same could be the case with rest of the anime that are premiering.

At least that’s what most of the fans believe. All we can do is to make assumptions.

Keep in my mind that it’s not just the anime industry that’s suffering, other popular entertainment industries all around the world have become a little stagnant too.

That’s all folks!
